Bardavon presents Soweto Gospel Choir this Friday

Two-time Grammy Award-winner from South Africa, the Soweto Gospel Choir performs at the Bardavon in Poughkeepsie on Friday, November 13 at 8 p.m. Wrote The London Times, “It’s a vivacious mix of peerless voices and high-energy dance: glamorous, dignified and deeply enriching.”

The 30-plus-member choir formed in 2002 and released its full-length debut, Voices from Heaven, in 2005. Its fifth and most recent release, 2010’s Grace, followed the death of founder member David Mulovhedzi and guitarist Joshua Mcineka. It expands the range of the group’s repertoire and includes a stirring reinterpretation of “Bridge over Troubled Water.”

Tickets cost $55 for Golden Circle seating, $40 general admission, $35 for Bardavon members and are available at the Bardavon box office at 35 Market Street in Poughkeepsie, (845) 473-2072; the Ulster Performing Arts Center box office at 601 Broadway in Kingston, (845) 339-6088; and through Ticketmaster by calling (800) 745-3000 or online at https://www.ticketmaster.com.
