The Rosendale Theatre will host a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Friday, November 1. The doors open at 7:45 p.m. for a pre-show act and costume contest with prizes, to be followed by the movie screening, accompanied by a live cast. Tickets cost $10 or $8 for those in costume. The film is rated R, so those under age 17 require an accompanying parent or adult guardian, and nobody under age 12 will be admitted.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show has been a cult classic since its release over 30 years ago. An outrageous assemblage of science fiction movies, Marvel Comics, Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello outings and rock ‘n’ roll of every vintage, the movie depicts two middle-American “Ike Age” kids confronted by the complications of the decadent morality of the ‘70s, represented in the person of the mad “doctor” Frank N. Furter, a transvestite from Transylvania.

Audience members are encouraged to get involved, dressing up and singing along (lyrics to some songs will be projected), shouting “callbacks” during the performance and dancing “The Time Warp.” Organizers are asking that the audience not throw anything onto the stage; keep the rice and water at home, please. Before the show, prop bags containing newspaper, toilet paper, noisemakers, latex gloves and a glowstick will be sold for $5. The cast, crew and regular attendees teach the “virgins” (people who haven’t seen the show) when to yell the appropriate callback lines, the use of props and how to do the “Time Warp.” Live performers in Rosendale include Julie Novak, John Cox, Dylan Glenn-Johanson, Carla Rozman and Carrie Wykoff.

Funds raised from the evening will be applied to Phase Two of the capital campaign for the Rosendale Theatre, which includes a renovation of the Theatre’s lobby and restrooms to make the theater Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant. The Rosendale Theatre is located at 408 Main Street in Rosendale. For more information, call (845) 658-8989 or visit
