TV food guru Ted Allen in Rhinebeck this Saturday

It’s not easy to move on from a popular television series when that’s how so many people discovered who you are. Fortunately for Ted Allen, who first hit the radar in a big way thanks to his weekly food-related contributions to Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, his wry, urbane persona was even more perfectly suited to hosting Food Network cooking competition Chopped. Allen has also expanded his reach into the book world, and he’ll share some of the secrets from the recently released In My Kitchen at bluecashew Kitchen Pharmacy in Rhinebeck this Saturday, September 8.

“It’s an honor and it’s a privilege,” said Gregory Triana, bluecashew co-owner and Allen fan. “We really value his strength in his culinary field and what he has done to date, and also his new book that is out.”

Subtitled 100 Recipes and Discoveries for Passionate Cooks, In My Kitchen promises to bring Allen’s wit into recipes and stories that he hopes will inspire the reader as much as they did himself. Fans of Allen looking for a unique experience will enjoy the signing, which Triana said will allow for plenty of conversation. “We conduct our book signings one-on-one,” Triana said. “People will engage in a conversation or bring in a recipe, and maybe all of a sudden [Allen’s] peers or colleagues he hasn’t seen in a while may show up. It’s a really fun event.”

For Triana and bluecashew, bringing in Allen is a coup, but also a natural move in a shop with a history of featuring prominent authors. “We are a small, privately owned business, and the way we work our store is we really curate it from merchandise to goods,” Triana said. “We’re so fortunate to make this happen.”

Ted Allen will sign his book In My Kitchen: 100 Recipes and Discoveries for Passionate Cooks at bluecashew Kitchen Pharmacy on Saturday, September 8 from 2 to 5 p.m. The book is on sale for $35 at bluecashew. For more information, visit and
